Eager Reader is a weekly English enrichment experience designed to nurture a love for reading while building confidence in English language. As lower-primary students transition from learning to read to reading to learn, this activity-based programme helps them develop positive reading habits beyond worksheets and exam preparation.
Each month, students dive deeply into a carefully selected book through guided discussions, vocabulary exploration, and interactive storytelling — learning to see books as a source of joy.
Stories come alive through dramatisation, music and movement, collaborative art, games, and themed activities connected to real-world topics such as family, community, science, history, the environment, and current affairs.
Through engaging, low-pressure experiences, students strengthen important English language skills — oral communication, vocabulary, listening comprehension, confidence in self-expression, and simple sentence construction.
Reading is the single biggest predictor of academic outcomes through primary and beyond. But by mid-primary, many children stop reading for pleasure — they read because the homework asks them to, and they stop discovering books that fit them.
Eager Reader is a deliberate intervention against that drift. It is built around joy, not exam preparation. Children who attend leave with a stronger reading habit, a bigger spoken vocabulary, and — crucially — books they actually want to finish.
The programme runs weekly, in place of our Superbrain programme, and is included for participating students.
